Topics covered will include: growth models for populations of living organisms, as well as models for depletion and replenishment of natural resources; the concept of mass and energy balances applied to quantify changes in environmental systems; physical, chemical, and biological unit operations for treatment and reduction of solid, liquid, and gaseous wastes; and reduction of pollution impacts on air and water resources. This course is being offered in the Fall Semester as part of the Technology Education Certificate on Wednesdays from 17:35-20:25, the part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation, and evaluation. Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The incumbent will be responsible for preparing and delivering course material related to Companion Animal Behavior (ANSC2003, January to April 2021), to a class of 80-100 students which includes students registered in the Diploma of Veterinary Technology, B.Sc. Agriculture and B.Sc. Bioveterinary Science. Core concepts to be taught include animal training techniques, ontogeny of behavior, body language, socialization and communication, and fearfulness and aggressive behavior. The emphasis is on dogs and cats, with some horse content. This is a lecture/discussion course with no scheduled laboratory period. The Part-time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including developing lectures for the online environment, coordinating and monitoring student discussion groups, test preparation and evaluation. Marking assistance will be available. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position Experience teaching in post-secondary education, with excellent oral and written communication skills. A Masters degree in animal behavior or related discipline, or a Bachelor’s degree with experience with companion animals and at least two years university level teaching experience, is required. Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The incumbent will be responsible for developing laboratory sessions in coordination with instructors teaching the lecture portion of the material. Incumbent is responsible for delivering laboratory sessions in an on-line environment, grading laboratory assignments, and setting up and monitoring student discussion groups. Knowledge of companion animal biology is required; the course emphasizes dogs and cats, but pocket pets, birds, and other species kept as companion animals are included. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Master’s degree in Animal Science, Biology or similar discipline, or Bachelor’s degree in animal science/biology with at least two years experience with companion animals. Job Summary & Key Responsibilities This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of Earth Science and Physical Geology. Geology, as a subject matter area in the Earth Sciences, is closely related to soil science. This course will examine the nature of Earth materials as well as Earth processes, both internal and surface. Minerals, rocks, earthquakes, streams, and groundwater are just some of the areas investigated in this course. Many geological processes are of importance to the Environmental Sciences because an understanding of Earth processes is fundamental for the understanding of human impacts on our landscape. This course will be online in the Winter 2021 semester.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position Master’s Degree in a related field (PhD preferred); Teaching experience at a University Level; Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and excellent interpersonal skills with students and faculty. Online teaching experience is desirable.

The position reports to the Chair of the Department.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities This course covers the theory and applications of digital electronics technology and the control of digital devices by computers and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Digital technology has become the dominant method of communication, control, sensing, computation, and amusement in modern society. This course will provide the foundation to better understand current and future digital systems. Digital logic circuits, data forms, and applications are studied. Computers in the laboratory are used to interface with and control a variety of digital devices such as computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines, robotics, cameras, scanners, lab equipment, etc. Students are introduced to Visual Basic programming for interfacing with computer ports and analog input devices.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position MSc in a related field (PhD preferred); Teaching experience at a University Level; Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and excellent interpersonal skills with students and Faculty. Experience with adult learners is considered an asset.
