Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
Seeking an instructor to teach courses “MGMT 5004 – User Experience, Part 1”, which will be cross listed with INFO 6630.03_ User Experience (online). The instructor will also teach MGMT 5104, User Experience, Part 2 (2 day intensive – delivery method to be determined) for Dalhousie University’s Master of Information and Master of Information Management Programs in the Spring/summer 2024 term.
The program requires delivery/teaching of course materials for its User Experience which will include 12 weeks of online/distance education and a 2-day intensive component, if delivered in person the session will be held on Dalhousie campus in Halifax. To this end, this call for expressions of interest is being circulated with the aim of securing the participation of an appropriate academic instructor in this subject area. The course has an approved syllabus; and the course developer will have some flexibility to amend this.
Course Description
Understanding theories and practices of human-computer interaction is a key determinant of organizational success. This course explores how technology interrelates to human use and examines the process from conception of an idea to design and evaluation, with a particular emphasis on Web-based activities. The course discusses individuals’ and groups’ information behaviours in government and corporate contexts, and the theories and models of information behaviour that contribute to a nuanced understanding of the user experience.
Course start date: Summer 2024 Start Date: May 6,2024
The Instructor has agreed to provide the following services in the course:
– Prepare for and present the required course material for the distance portion of the course using available on-line tools and technologies
– Preparation and grading of all assignments.
– Prepare for and present the required course material for the intensive study portion of the course, including preparation and grading of all assignments.
– Supervise and maintain responsibility for regular student contact through the course site during the distance education portion of the course and provide a venue that supports student engagement and learning.
– Meeting strict deadlines and delivery schedules
Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Content expert qualifications include:

– Previous experience teaching user experience, or relelated work experience.

– academic qualifications in a course discipline that would meet the requirements for appointment as a faculty member in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Management.
– experience in course development and teaching at the graduate level, with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence.
– successful experience in course delivery in a distance education mode is desirable, although not mandatory for participation in the project.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The sessional lecturer will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administration for DISM 3010, Introduction to Disability and Disability Management, including preparation of the course syllabus, module content, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. These courses are delivered completely using distance learning technology.

This course provides an overview of Disability Management theories, terminology and processes. Particular emphasis is on introduction to the practice of Disability Management, comprehending the relationship between occupation and disability, and, understanding the dynamic impact of disability on return to work.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Graduate degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant health-related field and experience in disability management practice required. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Proven experience in the interactive use of web-based education with learners at a distance is an asset.

POSITION: Sessional Lecturer- DISM 4010- Case Management and Return to Work

This course is delivered completely using distance learning technology.

This course will focus on the return to work process, with emphasis on the components of Disability Management that are critical for successful return to work outcomes. Appraisal of case management strategies, vocational rehabilitation, and ethical and legal implications of the return to work process will be highlighted.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The sessional lecturer will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administration for DISM 4040, Understanding the Relationship between Health and Work, including preparation of the course syllabus, module content, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. This course will distinguish issues that span the continuum of health and work performance, and examine the complex interaction between health conditions and ability and/or capacity to work. Concepts presented will include acute illness and injury, chronic health conditions, and workplace health promotion and prevention.

POSITION: Sessional Lecturer-DISM 4050- Communication and Professional Relationships in Disability Management

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The sessional lecturer will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administration for DISM 4050, Communication and Professional Relationships in Disability Management, including preparation of the course syllabus, module content, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. This course is delivered completely using distance learning technology.

This course identifies and analyzes key components that are part of the Disability Management communication toolkit. Application of strategies to enhance the professional relationships frequently encountered in the Disability Management process will be emphasized.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Graduate degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant health-related field and experience in disability management practice required. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Proven experience in the interactive use of web-based education with learners at a distance is an asset.
