The principles of digital imaging will be implemented and students will use this technology to complete practical assignments.

The School of Dental Hygiene, Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, is seeking applications for one part-time position at the rank of instructor as per CUPE collective agreement. The instructor will be responsible to coordinate and teach Introduction to Health Research DEHY 4011 from September 1 to December 22, 2023. As per the CUPEagreement, there will be a remuneration of $6478.00 for each of the 3 credit hour course. The course is delivered in a blended in-person and online format. Generally lectures are given in person and assignments and tests are administered via the Brightspace learning platform.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Dental hygiene students will learn in DEHY 4011 the fundamentals of research and to analyze and critique research articles relevant to dental hygiene practice. Applicants must hold a thesis based Masters degree in health sciences. A PhD degree is preferred. Applicants must have experience in oral health research as evidenced by a CV and or publication record. Experience teaching in a dental hygiene program is preferred. Applicants should be experienced and comfortable using an online learning platform.

Casual teaching position in extended clinical skills in orthodontic procedures in the undergraduate Dental Hygiene programs as assigned by the Director. It includes the theoretical and technical aspects related to the “extended skills” competencies within the dental hygiene scope of practice. Course material will be presented in lectures and demonstrations, as well as laboratory and preclinical sessions. The laboratory and preclinical sessions will include a hands-on portion that allows the student to practice the skills on each other and on mannequins.

This appointment will run for 3 weeks.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Must possess a current practising license as a registered dental hygienist and be authorized to perform orthodontic procedures in Nova Scotia. Minimum of 3 years of orthodontic specialty practice experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Must hold current CPR (BLS) certification. Must possess a Bachelor degree. Must have completed coursework or certificate in teaching methodology. Previous experience in preclinical and didactic teaching experience in the subject of orthodontics is strongly preferred.

This course includes the technical and theoretical aspects of dental radiography, the hazards and safety of radiation, as well as interpretation of radiographic images for dental hygiene care. Course material will be presented through lectures, small group activities and laboratory sessions. Laboratory sessions will include a “hands on” portion that allows students to take dental images using prototype heads. The principles of digital imaging will be implemented and students will use this technology to complete practical assignments.

This course presents the basic clinical, histologic and radiographic parameters needed for the assessment of normal and diseased periodontal structures. Likewise, this course also covers the microbiologic and histopathologic changes associated with the initiation of gingivitis and its progression to chronic periodontitis. Finally, the course deals with the cellular interpretation of the clinical response of the periodontium to the initial phase of treatment.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities Teach introductory periodontics to first year dental hygiene students. This course presents the basic clinical, histologic and radiographic parameters needed for the assessment of normal and diseased periodontal structures. Likewise, this course also covers the microbiologic and histopathologic changes associated with the initiation of gingivitis and its progression to chronic periodontitis. Finally, the course deals with the cellular interpretation of the clinical response of the periodontium to the initial phase of treatment.

DEHY 2805 is a 1.0 credit course. This appointment will run September 2020 – June 2021.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position Must maintain a current license as a registered dental hygienist in Nova Scotia. Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Must possess a Bachelor degree. Must have completed coursework or certificate in teaching methodology. The School of Dental Hygiene, Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, is seeking applications for one part-time position at the rank of instructor as per CUPE collective agreement. The instructor will be responsible to coordinate and teach Introduction to Health Research DEHY 4011 from September 1 to December 15, 2019 and Applied Oral Health Research DEHY 4002 from January 1 to April 15, 2020. As per the CUPE agreement, there will be a remuneration of $5232.00 for each of the 3 credit hour courses, DEHY 4011 and DEHY 4002 respectfully.

These research courses are designed to prepare dental hygiene students for evidenced-based practice. They will learn in DEHY 4011 to analyze and critique research articles relevant to dental hygiene practice. They will learn in DEHY 4002 to design and conduct a simple research study and disseminate the findings to a dental/dental hygiene audience.

Applicants must hold a PhD and have experience in research. Applicants must have experience teaching in the dental hygiene program.

The position is one day per week commencing September 13, 2019 ending April 17, 2020.

Responsibilities will include the supervision of patient care and performance evaluation of second-year dental hygiene students at a community-based clinic.​

Applicants must be a registered dental hygienist in Nova Scotia and hold a Baccalaureate degree or be registered in a Baccalaureate program. Applicants must have a minimum of three years of experience in dental hygiene practice. Experience practicing dental hygiene in a community-based service environment is required.
