Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Candidates must, at a minimum, possess a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, including marine management, environmental science, sociology or anthropology. Candidates must also have experience teaching at the graduate level. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with communities, and in coastal and marine related issues. Although this course is designed to be delivered in person, applications for remote teaching will be considered by the Selection Committee.

(0.5 position) Working with the course instructor the part-time academic will be responsible for delivering computation skills – teaching students how to approach, manage, and analyze acoustic telemetry datasets. The first half of the class would be lecture based – and the second half would be computational/data workshops.The responsibilities of the instructor may include preparation and delivery of lectures, preparation of a midterm test, appropriate modification of the course syllabus, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of learning assistants. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities We are seeking a colleague with expertise and teaching experience in chemical oceanography. The position includes responsibility for teaching OCEA 3002, Introduction to Chemical Oceanography, in the Fall 2021 semester. This course provides students with basic understanding of the composition of seawater and the processes that leads to this composition and its variations in space and time. The understanding should be both qualitative and quantitative and cover key concepts and tools used to understand chemical distributions within the ocean.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position It is preferred for the candidate to hold a PhD in chemical oceanography or a related discipline (candidates that are all but defended will be considered). In addition, candidates must demonstrate their ability to instruct students through lectures, in-class problem solving, and classroom-, field- or lab-based activities.

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are needed, as are strong organizational skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision is required.

Currently it is expected this course will be taught in person however could move to online delivery should the University feel the risks surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak warrant it. Experience with teaching in an online environment is an asset but all instructors will be supported by Dalhousie to develop and deliver their courses online from the Centre for Learning and Teaching (clt@dal.ca) and Academic Technology Services (support@dal.ca). Qualifications/Requirements of Position The applicants will have an advanced degree in biology. Previous, recent teaching experience (classroom and or laboratory) in the related discipline would be a definite asset. First time applicants must provide the names of two referees.
